24th Induction & Turnover Ceremonies took place last July 9, 2016 at the Phela Grande Convention Center. The event was graced by inducting Officer and Keynote Speaker District Governor Me’anne Alcordo-Solomon together with Spouse Tito, along with Honorable Gensan City Mayor Ronnel Rivera, himself a Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Metro Dadiangas. The good Mayor was also there to give moral support to our beloved 1st Lady Jane Gollon-Rivera who delivered an inspiring talk and a call for support to the less fortunate.

Also in attendance were Past District Governor Buddy Estudillo, Deputy District Governors Pitok Sueno, Dhell Eullaran, Cary Beatisula, Elvie Albano, Paul Yuste and Ed Hocson. PP Josephine Yap of the Rotary Club of Makati-Paseo de Roxas who delivered support to the Child Protection Unit. Sister Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente was represented by their President Mary Christine Tio and Treasurer Antong Inting. The Memorandum of Agreement of our Sisterhood Pact was officially signed that night with the first joint activity PROJECT PAHIYOM (Free Cleft Palate operation) happening on November 2016.

headed by President Elena Uy came in with their glamorous fab red gowns, the MARE's almost made the event feel like a Hollywood award ceremony.

The night was filled with laughter, camaraderie, honours given, a look back on past projects, and preparing and anticipating incoming projects. No doubt the highlight of the night is when everyone was blown away by newly inducted 2016-2017 President Orman Manansala's speech and spectacular production number complete with the Running man challenge, Tatlong Bibe and Trumpet dance, acompanied by the Sarimanok Pep Squad, before he officially adjourned the event with the gavel, and with a bang.

Oxygeneo Comes to Gensan

Social Media Day was started by Mashable in 2010 its an annual global event that is celebrated every  June 30. It recognises the digital revolution happening right before our eyes.

In Gensan, the Sox Bloggers and GBG Gensan celebrated it for the 3rd year already. They adapted #ChangePH as this year's theme along with the rest of the Philippines. For this year, they again partnered with SMART.

The fun filled event was packed with 75 social media advocates in Gensan - bloggers, online workers, NGOs, marketing officers of various companies, educators, among others. They all came to listen to speakers who are part of advocacies meant to improve the lives of the ordinary Pinoy, in this case, residents of Soccsksargen.

The night started with an overview of the event by Sox Blogger Co-Founder-Head and GBG Gensan Manager Avel Manansala who regaled the audience with the short history of his groups which has since grown in influence in the region and has amassed awards from Google and other online award-giving bodies. He was followed by Kevin Terrence Olmedo, a former Ateneo de Davao University teacher who has his own startup company who talked about the current State of Social Media.

Then Ariel Lalisan, lead of Google Educator Group - Sarangani and Assistant Principal of Alabel National Science HS who shared his insights on, Social Media: Venue for Shaping Public Opinion.

Dr. Roel Cagape, Doctor to the Boondocks then gave an emotional and heartwarming talk on his use of social media & digital communications, while tending to the sick hilltribes of Sarangani. A very effective speaker, he was able to get the commitment of everyone present to further help him with his causes.

Another medical practitioner, Dr. Remo Aguilar gave a rousing talk on: #HealthPh: Platform for Emerging Technology and Social Media and Healthcare plus Tips on How to be a Social Media Innovation Rock Star!

The next speakers, former student leader Ernest John Caliza talked about MSU's student-led Kabantugan Awards and its Search for Excellence while film maker Genory Vanz Alfazain dealt with his work on Developmental Communication.

Capping the night were SM City General Santos' dynamic Head of PR, Marilou Consad who gave an impressive overview of their CSR Programs in Soccsksargen, including health care, education, etc. She was followed by the hardworking SMART's Haydee Bernabe of Corporate Communications who revealed to the social media practitioners her company's exemplary advocacy work on improving education in the region in collab with DepEd.

The night was also full of surprises for everyone as McDonald's Gensan Highway (the event venue), raffled off exciting shwags, together with Smart, SM Cinema General Santos and San Miguel Beer.

In the end, everyone brought home a MINION toy with them aside from vowing to themselves that indeed, the only way to make a difference, either through social media or digital communications is to help #ChangePH.

Bodyshots is the longest running and most anticipated model search in the country, and is a massive foundation of both the fashion and modeling scene.

Last years Finals Night was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Solaria Resorts & Casino. The competition is founded by the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines (FDAP), this 3 decade old competition has the reputation of launching many of the PH’s now famous bodies and faces locally and internationally, on glossy magazines, runways, television and even on the silver screen. John Estrada, Wilma Doesnt, Francine Prieto, Zanjoe MArudo and ABS-CBN’s Lawrence Dyogi, just to name a few.

Bodyshots on its 30th year, added new categories to the usual Runway and Alpha Male categories. As the competition promotes, "Diversity is fashion", aspiring curvy plus-size, petite, tattooed, dark-skinned, and even the differently abled hopefuls are all welcome to compete.

After their Cebu auditions, Bodyshots 2015 made waves in Gensan just this June 27-28 2015 at Grab a Crab - Laurel, aiming to extend their reach, Bodyshots 2015 held their first audition in Gensan, and I was lucky enough to be assigned by the production team (Overall Productions) to organise the audition.

The screening panel, all the way from Manila FDAP’s Johnny Babad and Nardie Presa, assessed and interviewed the aspiring models of Gensan, along with Bodyshots Director/Producer Che Lejano and Junil Managbanag who got the models in photo and video.

All of which are vying for a chance to be included on the competition and get to be trained by the industries best coaches, to compete on the grand finals at Manila on October 25th at the new Shangri-la at the Fort in Bonifacio Global City, and in winning the tittle, along with  P105k worth of cash and prizes, a travel package, an exclusive modeling contract and a feature on F Magazine.

For those who would like to join, Next auditions are to be held on July 4 & 5 - Century Hotel, Angeles City, Pampanga
and July 11 & 12 - in Metro Manila, at a location to be announced.

SUMMER 2015 is now upon us and as each day unfolds, the people of Soccksargen are very much excited for the the much awaited “Welcome to Summer” of Sarangani’s most famous tourist destination, the white sand beaches of Glan.

We are talking about Glan’s 5th Mahin Beach Festival 2015 that transpires this weekend of April 17-19, 2015 at the white sand beach strip of Barangay Gumasa, about 10 minutes away from the center of the 100-year old municipality.

The term “MAHIN” is the B'laan term for Beach, Ocean, Sea.

The Mahin Beach Festival, now on its fifth year is Glan’s way of saying hello to summer.  The municipal government of Glan which celebrated its highly fruitful 100th Foundation Anniversary in October 2014 is ensuring that their beach festival will give tourists and visitors more than enough reasons to come  and enjoy their awesome white sand beaches during this month of April,  aside from the iconicSarBay Fest that will be held much later in May 15-17, 2015.

In other words, Mahin 2015 Beach Festival is Sarangani'sWelcome to Summer as it complements the now decade-oldSarBay Fest 2015's Ode to Summer. Both festivals confirms Glan, Sarangani's reputation as the Summer Beach Capital of South Central Mindanao and Top Tourism Draw.

The 5th Mahin Beach Festival is three happy days of festivities right in Gumasa, Glan, the same activity area ofSarBay Fest.  The Honorable Glan Mayor James “Tata” Yap, has committed  a beach festival on a much grander scale this year, promising a #PerfectSummer for everyone.
